The Production of Tradition

The video Production of Tradition follows the industrial production process of traditional “Lederhosen” in Colombo, Sri Lanka in a sequence of fragmented shots – from the initial cutting of the leather to final inspection. On one hand, my interest in this subject focuses on the contradiction between industrialized, outsourced production and traditional origins as well as the use of lederhosen as a traditional costume. On the other hand, the continuously static frame of each sequence renders the discrepancy between a repetitive action and the subjectivity of the women sewing the product visible.
